Long Or Short Grooming Options:

You’ve probley seen many photos of gorgeous Yorkies showing the long hair and top knot, but that’s not the only coat style for the Yorkie. In fact, the puppy cut is the most popular coat style for the Yorkie, as it is easy to maintain. You can find a Professional Groomer that can do this cut for you.

The Short Coat:

The short coat is very easy to manage. A number of cuts look adorable on the Yorkie such as the Puppy cut, Westie cut and the Schnauzer cut. You can have a professional groomer can trim your Yorkie in the cut you desire every 4 to 6 weeks. When you bring your Yorkie to the groomer they will usually include a bath, cleaning the ears, trimming the toe nails and cleaning the anal gland. Now that’s easy! A day at the Spa!

The Long Coat:

The long coat is the standard style at the show dog. The Yorkshire Terrier coat is one of the defining characteristics of the breed. Its color, texture, and length are outlined in the breed’s standard as is the single or double top knot.
If you want to keep your Yorkie’s coat long this will takes a lot of dedication and care. The texture of the Yorkie’s coat is like human hair and it too continues to grow. You will need to brush it daily, shampooing and conditioning bi-weekly. You must do this religiously, or it will end up a matted mess. If you want a show coat you will need to wrap it. Then keep your Yorkie in wraps 24/7. Wrapping protects the coat, allowing it to grow, and also helps keep it clean, this is especially important for males, who get urine on themselves. You will be able to start wrapping your dog’s hair as soon as it is long enough usually when your Yorkie’s about 8 to 10 months.
