Training
Your Yorkshire Terrier Puppy for Grooming:
You
can begin training your Yorkie puppy to be receptive and eventually
enjoy grooming as soon as you bring him home. You will want
to massage his feet, around his eyes & nose and in and
around his ears, play with his feet and nails and also the
tail area. By doing this you will be getting him comfortable
with these areas being touched. The best time to do so is
when he’s relaxing in your lap. You will also want to
talk in a soothing voice and give him treats for being good.
With in a couple of days you will want to introduce him to
the brush. Go Slow, use a soft voice and reward with a treat.
How Often:
Bathing
bi-weekly or depending on how dirty your dog gets (Note: it’s
a good idea to clean urine from Yorkie males daily) Disposable baby
wipes work great!
Brush Teeth Daily, if possible. At least every other day. The Yorkshire Terrier is prone to dental problems, so good dental care is very important.
Ear trimming as needed to keep the ears erect. Clean ears
at every bath or as necessary.
Nail clipping at every bath or trim as necessary.
Grooming every 4 to 6 weeks for short coats and daily for
long coats.
